Same opening day, roughly three times the length. Flipkart runs a sprint and closes; Amazon keeps going deep into the festive season. That single fact decides more than any price comparison: if you are buying in the first week, the platforms are interchangeable. If you are buying in late October, only one sale is still running.
Why prices converge
Both platforms watch each other continuously during the overlap. A headline price on a popular phone that is materially better on one side tends to be matched within hours, because neither can afford to lose the comparison on the most-searched models.
What does not get matched is the bank partnership. Each platform signs different card issuers, and that discount is contractual rather than competitive. On an expensive item the bank offer is usually worth more than the difference in listed price — which means the practical question is not “which sale” but which card you are holding.
How to actually decide
- Check both on day one. They open together and the sharpest allocations go first. There is nothing gained by waiting.
- Let your card pick the platform. Whichever platform partnered with the bank you already hold is usually the cheaper one, before you compare a single listed price.
- Buying late? Go to Amazon. By the last week of October, Flipkart's sale has ended and Amazon's has not.
- Note both early-access days. Flipkart opens to Plus members and Amazon to Prime members roughly 24 hours ahead. On limited stock, that day beats any discount.
